Omegle Alternative: Free Random Text Chat, No Sign-Up
Omegle shut down in November 2023. If what you want now is a quick, anonymous text chat with a stranger, with no account to create, RandomHi is one option to try: free, no ads, no sign-up, no video.
To be clear, RandomHi has no connection to Omegle or the people who ran it. The idea is similar. The site is its own thing.
What RandomHi offers
- One-on-one chat with a random stranger. Matching is completely random.
- Text, photos and voice notes. Send a message, a photo, or a voice note of up to 60 seconds. Photos can be switched off completely.
- No account, no profile. Pick a nickname of 2 to 16 characters, choose how you appear (Man, Woman, or Rather not say), confirm you are 18 or older and press Start chatting. No email or phone number.
- Free, with no ads. Nothing to buy, nothing to unlock.
- Phone or computer. It runs in the browser, so there is no app to install.
A human check runs once when you start (Cloudflare Turnstile). It is usually invisible; sometimes it is a one-click box.
What RandomHi does not offer
Better to say this plainly up front.
- No video. There is no webcam mode and no voice call. If seeing the other person is the point, this is not the right site.
- No matching options. There are no interest tags, no country filter and no gender filter. You cannot choose who you are paired with.
- English interface. The buttons are in English. In the chat itself you can type in any alphabet.
What it adds to a plain text chat
RandomHi keeps the simple core, a stranger and a Next button, and adds a few protections around it.
- Protected photos. Photos are shrunk in your browser before sending, which strips hidden data such as location. They arrive blurred and open in a viewer with no save option. No website can fully block screenshots, though, so only send what you would be fine with someone keeping. The how it works page has the details.
- Automatic filters. Phone numbers, links, other app usernames, money requests, identity-based slurs and violent threats never get through, and child safety rules are very strict. The safety page lists what is filtered and what is not.
- Report. One tap ends the chat and keeps that person from being matched with you again. The site operator reviews reported chats.
- A careful Next. During a chat, Next asks for a double tap, so you do not skip someone by accident.
- Reconnects on its own. If your phone changes network or goes to sleep, the chat is held for a minute and continues where it left off.
Who runs it
RandomHi is a hobby project by one independent developer in Turkey. There is no company. More on the about page. The rules are in the terms, and data handling is in the privacy policy.
Is it right for you?
If you want text chat with a stranger and no camera involved, RandomHi covers the basics: a random person, a nickname instead of a login, and a Next button. If video is what you are after, you will need something else.
