How RandomHi Works
RandomHi is a free random chat that runs in your browser. No account, no profile, no app to install. You pick a nickname, press one button, and you are talking to a stranger. This page walks through every step.
Before you start
RandomHi is for people aged 18 and over, and the first screen asks you to confirm that with a checkbox. It also asks for two things:
- A nickname. Anything from 2 to 16 characters. No email, no phone number, no password.
- How you want to appear. Man, Woman, or Rather not say. The person you meet sees this label. It does not change who you meet.
Then press Start chatting. A one-time human check from Cloudflare Turnstile runs in the background. Usually you will not notice it; sometimes it shows a small box you tick once.
How matching works
Matching is completely random. There are no filters: not by gender, country or interests. The label you chose is only shown to the other person. It plays no part in who you are paired with.
What you can send
RandomHi has no video and no voice calls. Instead you have three ways to talk.
Text
Type and send. Every alphabet works, so you can write in your own language. The interface itself is in English.
Photos
Photos are optional, and they get extra care:
- Before a photo leaves your device, your browser redraws it at a smaller size. Hidden details such as location data are stripped out.
- The other person receives it blurred. One tap opens it full screen in a protected view.
- There is no download or save option, and the view hides when they switch to another app or open a screenshot tool.
- Honest note: no website can completely prevent screenshots, or a photo of the screen taken with another device.
Switch photos off before you start or during a chat, and you will neither send nor receive them.
Voice notes
Record a voice note of up to 60 seconds and send it. These are recorded messages, not live calls: the other person plays your clip in the chat.
Next, Report and Leave
- Next moves you to a new person. During a chat it asks for a double tap, so a slip of the thumb does not end a good conversation.
- Report ends the chat right away. You will not be matched with that person again, and the reported chat is reviewed by the site operator.
- Leave takes you out.
Filters that run on their own
Some messages are stopped before they reach the other side, such as phone numbers, links, usernames for other apps and requests for money. Identity-based slurs and threats of violence are blocked too. Child safety rules are very strict: breaking them ends the chat, and that device cannot be matched again for a while. Rule breakers can also lose access, blocked by network address or device. The terms spell out the rules, and the safety page has the full filter list and what no filter can catch.
If your connection drops
Phones hop from Wi-Fi to mobile data, screens go to sleep, and the site gets updates. When that happens, your chat is held for one minute. If the connection comes back within that minute, the chat picks up where it left off on its own, with the same person.
Sounds in the background
If you are in another tab or app when a message arrives, you hear a short ding and a counter appears in the tab title. The sound can be turned off.
Phone or computer, no app
RandomHi works in a normal browser on a phone or a computer. There is nothing to install. Open randomhi.com and you are a few taps from a conversation.
A few more things
RandomHi is free and shows no ads. It is built and run by one independent developer as a hobby project; the about page has more. If you are here because Omegle shut down in November 2023, the Omegle alternative page explains what to expect. The FAQ has short answers, and the privacy page explains how your data is handled.
